ABERYSTWYTH UNIVERSITY'S SCIENCE EXHIBITION 2013 |
Years 5 and 6 pupils spent a very enjoyable and educational morning at the Science Exhibition which was held in the University. Pupils were given the opportunity to roam the various workshops and stalls learning about all kinds of interesting and sometimes jaw-dropping science! Many thanks to the University for once again inviting us along, and to the students themselves for all their hard work and enthusiasm with the children. |

HOCKEY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS |
Congratulations to the school's hockey team 'Mellt' on winning the Aberystwyth Hockey League. The team has been playing every Friday evening since September on the University's all-weather pitch, and managed to survive the whole season undefeated. Well done all of you on your achievement, and thank you for representing the school so well. The new term starts in September 2013, and there is a warm welcome to all pupils from years 5 and 6 to take part. |

GEORGIA RUTH OPENS THE COFFEE AFTERNOON |
We welcomed Georgia Ruth Williams to open the Coffee Afternoon this year. Georgia is an ex-pupil of Ysgol Gymraeg who is now a Singer and Radio Presenter on BBC Radio Cymru. Opening the event, Georgia said that listening to the School Choir brought back several memories, including the time she began to show an interest in music, and in playing the harp. She also thanked the school for giving her the Welsh language as she came from a non-Welsh speaking background. The school would especially like to thank the PTA for organising yet another successful Coffee Afternoon, and thank you to all who came to support the event. |
REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE! |
We had a fantastic day today in Paul and Adrian's company, as they shared a very important message with us about recycling. Our favourite song was "Arbed, Ailddefnyddio, Ailgylchu" (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) because we were able to join in the singing. The various characters were also quite entertaining! We learnt what to throw in the bin, and what items we could recycle in the clear bags the Council provide. Thank you to the crew for giving us such a fantastic afternoon. |

THE SCHOOL COUNCIL ASSIST THE POLICE WITH SPEEDING MOTORISTS! |
"This morning we went over to Llanbadarn Road by 9 o'clock in order to assist the police with traffic calming. We had a sign showing the motorists' speed, and if they were travelling over 30mph the police pulled them in to the side of the road in order to speak with them. We also asked why they were speeding when they were travelling passed schools. We were joined by Penny and Bradley from Plascrug School, and thoroughly wnjoyed the experience." |

NIAMH IS GYMNASTICS CHAMPION |
Congratulations to Niamh of Year 3 on her incredible achievement over the weekend. Niamh managed to win the gold medal in a tumbling competition for girls aged 8 years at National level, held in North Wales. It's great to see Niamh developing into a confident young gymnast - keep it up Niamh. |

A VISITOR FROM PATAGONIA |
We welcomed Patricia to visit years 5 and 6 today. Patricia has travelled all the way to Wales from her home in Patagonia. Patricia'r grandparents were born and raised in North Wales, before emigrating to Patagonia during the last century. Patricia'r first language is Spanish, but can speak Welsh fluently also. Many thanks to her for her company today, and for her interesting insight to life in Patagonia. |

YSGOL DEWI SANT, LLANELLI, VISIT THE SCHOOL |
Following a visit to the National Library of Wales, pupils from Ysgol Dewi Sant visited the school for a Friday afternoon of fun and games with Year 6. The pupils played in mixed teams in order to compete in various games against each other including rugby, football and netball. After building up a thirst they enjoyed a glass of squash along with some biscuits, and socialized amongst themselves. Many thanks to staff at Ysgol Dewi Sant for their kind gifts to the school. |

CASGLU BAGIAU AILGYLCHU BAG2SCHOOL |
For the second time this year, Year 6 boys have been busy loading a van with bags filled with second-hand clothes for Bag2School. This scheme has raised hundreds of pounds for the school in the past few years. Thank you everyone - parents especially - for contributing bags filled with shoes, blankets, curtains and clothes. |
RHEDWYR TRAWS GWLAD DYFED |
Many congratulations to a group of boys from years 3 and 4 who travelled to Carmarthen recently in order to compete in the Dyfed Cross Country race. The boys managed to run extremely well (including Isaac who is absent from the photograph) with Rhys of Year 4 finishing second in his race. Well done you, boys, and thank you for representing the school. |

ABERYSTWYTH AREA URDD EISTEDDFOD 2013 |
Woodwind solo |
Congratulations to all pupils who competed in this year's Area Eisteddfod, and well done to all who were successful. Best of luck in the County Eisteddfod. |
ST. DAVID'S DAY PARADE |
For the first time ever, a parade was organised in Aberystwyth to celebrate the day of our patron saint here in Wales. Each Key Stage 2 child had the unforgetable experience of taking part in the parade, by walking from the town clock down to the prom amongst hundreds of Wales and Saint David's flags. They then had the privilege of singing in front of a large crowd by the bandstand. It was a very special experience for the children to take part in such a historical event. |
URDD RUGBY TOURNAMENT |
Congratulations to the school's rugby team on competing so well in this year's Urdd Rugby Tournament. The boys managed to win all four of their group matches, before losing in the semi-final. Well done boys, and good luck in the next tournament. |
