THANK YOU FFIGAR FOR SPONSORING A NEW HOCKEY KIT

Tonight the hockey league will start on the astro pitches at the University; and thanks to the generosity of one of the town's embroidery businesses, Ffigar, one of the school's teams will have a brand new kit to play in.

Pictured is Mr Williams the headteacher with Mr Gari Appleton of Ffigar with the hockey team 'Mellt'. This year the school has four hockey teams which will play in the weekly league. Best of luck to them all.

THE SCHOOL CELEBRATES ITS 73rd BIRTHDAY, AND A SPECIAL PLAQUE IS UNVEILED

Today, on the 25th September 2012, the school celebrated its 73rd birthday.
Today was also important for another reason, with the unveiling of a plaque where the original building of Yr Ysgol Gymraeg stood on Llanbadarn Road (the old Urdd building) which is now home to residential flats. On the plaque reads an englyn by the poet Tudur Dylan Jones:

Mae cyffro'r hen, hen stori - yn parhau,
a'r waliau na weli
yn dal i'n hysbrydoli
yn Aber ein hamser ni.

FOOTBALL AND NETBALL VS RHYDYPENNAU SCHOOL

We welcomed Ysgol Rhydypennau to Ysgol Gymraeg today where football and netball matches were held between the two schools. Every year a league is held in the Aberystwyth area where schools compete against each other in both sports on Friday afternoons. It was Rhydypennau's turn to visit Ysgol Gymraeg this week, with Ysgol Gymraeg returning to Rhydypennau in the Spring. All games played today were very close, with everyone enjoying competing (and enjoying a glass of cold drink afterwards as well!)

OFFICIAL OPENING OF 'OWAIN GLYNDŴR'S CASTLE' IN YEAR 2

Yesterday was Owain Glyndŵr Day. And today, we opened a new castle in Year 2 and named it in honour of the great Welsh leader. The castle will play an important part in the outside play area in Year 2, with space inside for listening to stories about great Welsh heroes! Many thanks to Dai and Ceredig for building the castle, and to Barclays especially for sponsoring the building materials. Thank you also to Owen Llew from the National Library for coming into Year 2 and explaining Owain Glyndŵr's history to the pupils.

FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to members of the school's year 6 boys who took part and won a football tournament held for Under 11s. The tournament was held at Blaendolau over the weekend in memory of Gary Pugh.
The 'Penrhyn Celts' managed to win 5 of their matches, draw two and lose one. Well done boys!

YEAR 3 EDUCATIONAL WALK AROUND ABERYSTWYTH TOWN

Year 3 had a very enjoyable morning walking around town, learning about the history of Aberystwyth and its buildings. Thank you very much to Mr and Mrs Morgan for the squash and biscuits!

SUCCESS FOR TOMI AT THE ROYAL WELSH SHOW

Congratulations to Tomi from Year 1 on his success in coming third in this year's Art cometition for primary children at The Royal Welsh Show which was held over the summer.

Tomi had to draw a picture of a cow, and as you can see, he did a fantastic job of it!
Well done you, Tomi!

CYCLING TO LONDON IN MEMORY OF ANGHARAD

Click here to view the whole collection (82 photos)

Over the summer holidays this year, members of staff, friends and members of Angharad's family cycled from Aberystwyth to London in memory of a past-pupil, Angharad Mair Williams, who sadly died last November following a long battle with her illness EB.
Many thanks to all who sponsored the ride, with the total now in excess of £12,000 - an amount which will make a substantial difference to the ward where Angharad was treated. View the photos and see how much the cyclists enjoyed their three days in the saddle!
