» Carys with her prize - an assortment of Fair Trade sweets!

Many congratulations to Carys from year 6 on winning the second prize in a national competition to raise awareness of the need to sustain tropical rainforests. The project, named 'Size of Wales' is aiming to develop a sustainable area the size of Wales. Carys managed to create an attractive 3D poster using natural materials to raise the project's profile. Well done Carys!

POETRY WITH PROFESSOR TIM WOODS FROM ABERYSTWYTH UNIVERSITY

Today, Mr Tim Woods (Mary’s father) held a poetry workshop with both Year 6 classes. He started off by teaching us about the strange and interesting poetry written by Dadaist poets at the beginning of the twentieth century. Activities included writing out a whole piece of text backwards, and choosing random words from a hat to create pieces of poetry. We learnt that Dadaists emphasised the importance of sound in their poems, and we definitely had great fun listening to some of our poems being read out! Thank you very much to Mr Woods for an interesting and very enjoyable morning.

» Year 6 pupils hold the Athens olympic torch at the exhibition in the National Library

"We had a fantastic morning at the National Library as we visited a most interesting display about the Olympic Games. We learnt a lot about the Games, as well as learning the significance of the flame itself. We saw pictures and read informatin about various Welsh olympians - it was great to see so many of them. We're now looking forward to seeing the flame pass through Aberystwyth at the end of May."

YEAR 3 VISIT LLANBADARN CHURCH

» Year 3 with Mr Geraint Thomas at Llanbadarn Church

"On Friday we went to visit Llanbadarn Church where we met Mr Geraint Thomas who showed us around. The church is very old, around 900 years old. The church is very pretty indeed. Mr Thomas showed us the baptismal font, the pulpit, the lectern and the altar. He also explained that the ceiling is like Noah's ark. He showed us the shape of the church - it has been built in the shape of a cross. He then showed us the museum and where the bells are tolled."

CIP MAGAZINE SUCCESS CONTINUES!

» Soffia with an edition of Cip and her prize of three TinTin books!

"A very important letter arrived at the school this morning - a letter announcing I had won a competition in the Magazine Cip! The task was to complete a drawing and add dialogue to the TinTin story Y Seren Wib. I drew a picture of TinTin on board a ship and Milin going to the kitchen with the smell of spaghetti everywhere! I'm so happy to receive three books as a prize."

BECA AND ONLY KIDS ALOUD

» Beca with Tim Rhys Evans

"During March I was given an amazing opportunity to travel with the Only Kids Aloud choir to St Petersburgh in Russia for four days to perform in the Marinsky Theatre. We had been rehearsing every weekend since January which meant I had the chance to meet other children from all parts of Wales. On April 1st the choir performed at the Millenium Centre in Cardiff with the conductor Gergiev. Many television programmes on have been following our progress on S4C. It has been an experience I'll never forget!"

THE BLUE-TIT LAYS ITS EGGS!

» Video of the blue-tit with its eggs (laid today: 17/04/2012)

"The Blue-tit has laid her eggs! When we returned from the Easter holidays we were disappointed to see that there weren't any eggs in the nest. But then, on our first day back, we notice the eggs for the first time (she must have been hiding them until we'd returned to school!) We have counted around 13 eggs! It will probably take a couple of weeks for the eggs to hatch. We can't wait to see the little chicks!"
Gwern, Class 5G
